Traffic is the one thing every online business needs. If you don’t know how to drive traffic to your website, you have no visibility, no sales and ultimately, no business. That’s why you need to know how to drive consistent traffic to your website if you want your business to thrive.
The different ways to drive traffic to your website
Luckily, there are several things you can do to drive more traffic to your site. Here’s a quick overview of the different options you have for driving traffic to your website. I’ve put these in order of ease to implement, to make life even easier for you!
#1: Social media for traffic generation
Everyone seems to be on social media, don’t they! And that’s a good thing. However, to benefit from that, you must include your website details within your social media bios. It’s the primary way for new followers to know where to go to find out more about you. But also mention it within your posts too. That could be in the form of a link back to your latest blog post, opt-in or sales page, or even posting your URL on the bottom of your online graphics. Remember, not everyone sees your posts, so make sure you rinse and repeat regularly!
#2: Drive traffic to your website with email marketing
Contrary to what you may think, email marketing is still very much alive and thriving. You can use it to drive traffic to your website opt-in pages. As with social media, use your emails to promote your latest blogs or podcasts too. It’s also worth remembering that not everyone on your email list will be on your social media accounts, so don’t be afraid to repurpose content across the various platforms.
#3: Get traffic from your blog posts
Blogs are great for your website traffic and your SEO. Write regular posts and make sure you’re adding internal links between blog posts too. The beauty of a good blog post is it can be shared everywhere! This not only gives you content for the other platforms; it’s also a great way of introducing people to your business and what you do.
#4: Use collaborations to drive traffic to your website
Think about how you can use blog posts, podcasts and video on platforms other than your own website too. For example, you can publish a blog as an article on LinkedIn and republish it on Medium. You can become a guest on someone else’s site and get a link back to your own site for more information. You can also collaborate with another complimentary business owner and get links back to your website that way.
#5: Pinterest for traffic generation
Pinterest is a great way to drive traffic to your website. It’s a search engine on its own, so you need to use the right keywords and hashtags for your images, boards and bio. Create suitable pins for your blogs, pages and offers and use them to drive traffic back to your site.
#6: Get more traffic with SEO
You want your website to show up in all of the search engines. Take some time to optimise your site for SEO, to use the power of those search engine results and drive traffic back to your site.
#7: Paid advertising for traffic
Facebook ads and google ads can be another way of driving traffic to your website. However, it’s best to focus on implementing the free traffic generation options first – and only use paid advertising if you have the budget for it.
As with anything, overwhelm can really hit when you’re looking at the different options. Focus on only one or two of these at a time until you have a process in place and have given it time to generate results. 90 days is a reasonable timescale. You can then introduce another channel once you hit that benchmark and have results to base your decision on.
